Women's Health Initiative: Dietary Modification Trial
Study characteristics:
1) 48,835 women, postmenopausal, mean age 62
2) no breast or colon cancer, 3% with cardiovascular disease
2) mean follow-up 8 years
Groups: low fat diet (20% fat) vs regular diet
No stratification based on type of fat
Outcome:
1) breast cancer or colorectal cancer
2) acute coronary syndrome, myocardial infarction
3) stroke
4) weight change
Results:
- NO difference in any outcome in the 2 groups, except low fat diet maintained lower weight than control group
